Nozomi is the best choice for the shortest journey and the widest selection of departures. Hikari makes additional stops and can suit eligible rail-pass itineraries. Kodama stops at every station and takes considerably longer, so it is rarely the first choice for a direct Tokyo–Osaka trip.

Tokyo to Osaka Shinkansen prices
The ticket total contains a base fare and a Shinkansen limited-express charge. Non-reserved seats are normally the lowest-cost option, reserved ordinary seats provide a confirmed seat, and Green Car offers more space. Peak-season adjustments can change the final amount.

Getting from Shin-Osaka to central Osaka
Shinkansen services do not terminate at Osaka Station or Namba. They arrive at Shin-Osaka Station. From there, JR trains reach Osaka/Umeda, while the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line provides a direct connection toward Umeda, Shinsaibashi and Namba.
Allow transfer time at Shin-Osaka, especially if you have luggage or a separately booked onward train.
Reservations, luggage and boarding
Reserve seats early for Japanese holidays, weekends and groups that need to sit together. Baggage with combined dimensions over 160 cm requires an eligible seat reservation with access to the oversized-baggage area on the Tokaido Shinkansen.
