Choose your train and travel date
Compare Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama by their stops and journey time. Not every train has the same stopping pattern. Check the live results for your date rather than relying on a fixed timetable.
If using a nationwide JAPAN RAIL PASS, check the conditions for the exact service. Nozomi and Mizuho require the eligible NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket together with a valid pass. Regional passes have different coverage.
Departure and arrival stations
Depart from Tokyo or Shinagawa, as shown on your ticket. Shinkansen trains arrive at Shin-Osaka, not Osaka Station or Namba. From Shin-Osaka, JR trains connect with Osaka Station, while the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line serves Umeda and Namba.
Getting from Shin-Osaka to central Osaka
Shinkansen services do not terminate at Osaka Station or Namba. They arrive at Shin-Osaka Station. From there, JR trains reach Osaka/Umeda, while the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line provides a direct connection toward Umeda, Shinsaibashi and Namba.
Allow transfer time at Shin-Osaka, especially if you have luggage or a separately booked onward train.
Seat reservations and oversized baggage
Reserve in advance when you need adjacent seats, a specific departure or an oversized baggage space. Nozomi trains operate with all seats reserved during designated major peak periods; check the official notice for your travel dates.
For a suitcase whose length, width and height add up to more than 160 cm and no more than 250 cm, reserve a seat with an oversized baggage space on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen. Baggage exceeding 250 cm in total dimensions cannot be brought on board. Other size, length and weight limits also apply; check the official baggage guidance for your item.
From booking to boarding
Confirm the travel date, boarding station, destination and selected train. Read the change and cancellation conditions and check the ticket delivery instructions before completing your booking.
Follow the collection and boarding instructions supplied for your issued ticket. A booking confirmation or collection code is not automatically a ticket that opens the gate. Check whether collection is required, and confirm the train, carriage and seat details before boarding.
