Direct Nozomi or a connecting journey

For a journey without changing trains, look for a Nozomi service from Hakata to your chosen Tokyo-area station. Compare the arrival time and transfer count as well as the departure time.

Sakura services do not continue to Tokyo. A Sakura and Hikari combination involves a change of train, commonly at Shin-Osaka. Check each leg and allow enough time for the connection.

If travelling with a nationwide JAPAN RAIL PASS, Nozomi requires the eligible NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket together with the valid pass. Regional passes have different coverage; verify the conditions for the complete journey.

Hakata, Shinagawa and Tokyo: choose the right stations

Hakata Station serves Fukuoka city and connects with local transport, including the subway. Add the journey from your accommodation or the airport before the Shinkansen departure; it is not included in the five-hour planning estimate.

Compare onward transport from Shinagawa and Tokyo Station for your accommodation or connection. Book the destination you intend to use and follow the station information on your issued ticket.

Reserve for your travel date

For a long journey, check seat availability early if your group needs to sit together or you require a particular departure. Adjacent seats depend on availability and the confirmed assignment.

Nozomi operates with all seats reserved during designated major peak periods. Check the operator notice for your travel dates rather than assuming an unreserved seat will be available.

Luggage and boarding for the long journey

For baggage whose length, width and height total more than 160 cm and no more than 250 cm, reserve a seat with an oversized baggage space on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen. Baggage exceeding 250 cm in total dimensions cannot be brought on board. Other length and weight limits also apply; check the operator guidance before travel.

Follow the collection and boarding instructions supplied with your issued ticket. A booking confirmation or collection code is not automatically a ticket that opens the gate. Allow time for collection if required, and check your train, carriage and seat before boarding.

Compare available seat classes

Compare the seat classes, then search your travel date to check the options for your selected departure.
